Texas Tech University’s old Mass Communication building has been repurposed for use by the Materials Engineering Research Department and opened for Tech students December, 2016. Originally built in the 1970’s for classrooms, recording studios, and office for Mass Communications, the three-story building has been structurally modified and renovated to meet heavier live load capacities for laboratory use, new technology, and equipment. A new
cast stone façade was designed on the east face of the building to create a new grand entrance to the facility directly on the Engineering key, facing Memorial Circle.
